As featured in the June 22, 2006 issue of The Hook newspaper, STOA created a scheme that captured views of the Blue Ridge Mountains from every room in the house while accommodating the family’s diverse needs. Built in 1892 in the Park Street neighborhood of Charlottesville, the house required significant structural attention. STOA updated the kitchen and bathrooms and inserted a modest addition within the wraparound porch. It is situated on a small lot in the historically industrial Woolen Mills neighborhood. An open floor plan and large windows promote the passage of natural light. STOA’s design for the new walls and stairs opened up a level space for entertaining. Vertical grain cedar frames the porch which is sheltered by a beautiful copper roof. The addition introduced a new kitchen at grade and a primary suite above. Vibrant colors and material compositions reflect the energy of the culinary artistry.
